Full & Partial Rewires
Complete or partial rewiring for older properties, extensions, and renovations across East Sussex.
About This Service
A full rewire replaces every circuit, consumer unit, and fitting in your home with modern wiring that meets the latest 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations. If your property was built before the 1970s, or hasn't been rewired since, outdated rubber-insulated or aluminium wiring can be a serious safety and insurance risk. Benjamin Bailey Electrics carries out full rewires with minimal disruption, carefully planning the work so that you're never without power longer than necessary.
Partial rewires are the right choice when only part of your installation needs updating: a new kitchen, a loft conversion, an extension, or a garage workshop. Rather than disturbing areas that are perfectly serviceable, we identify exactly which circuits need replacing and carry out the work to the same standard as a full rewire — every circuit tested, every connection documented.
Every rewire we complete is followed by a full Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC), confirming the installation meets BS 7671 standards. We notify Part P compliance to your local authority on your behalf, so you receive the certification you need for home sales, insurance, and Building Control sign-off.
How It Works
Initial survey
We visit to assess your current installation, check the consumer unit, trace circuit layouts, and identify any existing issues. You receive a written quote with no hidden costs.
Planning & scheduling
We agree a start date that works around your household. For occupied properties we plan the work to minimise disruption.
First fix
New cables are run through the property before plastering or decorating. We protect surfaces, work tidily, and keep any necessary access work to a minimum.
Second fix & testing
All accessories (sockets, switches, light fittings) are fitted and every circuit is fully tested.
Certification & sign-off
We issue your Electrical Installation Certificate and notify Building Control, providing full Part P compliance documentation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a full rewire take?
Every rewire is different, so we confirm the likely timescale after seeing the property, access, layout, and scope of work. We always give you a realistic timeframe at the survey stage.
Do I need to move out during a rewire?
Many customers prefer to move out during a rewire. However, if this is not possible, we will do our best to minimise disruption. Temporary power can be provided when necessary.
Will a rewire affect my plaster and décor?
Some surface chasing is usually required. We use the smallest possible chase widths and keep disruption to a minimum, but redecoration or separate making-good work may be needed afterwards. We can advise on what to expect for your specific property.
Does a rewire include a new consumer unit?
Yes, a full rewire always includes a new metal-clad consumer unit with RCDs and/or RCBOs as required by the current wiring regulations.
